PPE Requirements for Onsite Visits

Personal Protective Equipment for visitors, contractors and suppliers to General Cable

Our safety aim is ZERO HARM and beyond and protects the safety of associates of General Cable, visitors, supplier and contractors working or visiting any General Cable New Zealand location.

General Cable is taking another step towards excellence in health and safety and our goal of Zero Harm and beyond, as a result a new benchmark and standard in Personal Protective Equipment will be implemented across all our sites.

According to the type of work done and the area in which they work, differing requirements for personal protection equipment (PPE) are now in place. Zone 1 is defined as any operational area beyond the Main Administration Building which includes all factories, warehouses, distribution centres and store areas.

Personal Protection for Contractors

All Contractors must have completed the General Cable safety induction process, and must ensure that their employees, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors and visitors comply with the General Cable New Zealand Safety Guidelines. Contractors must supply the appropriate PPE and must comply with the PPE and safety policies at all times.

Contractors will require the following PPE to enter a Zone 1 operational area:

  • Overalls or high visibility shirt and trousers
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection
  • Gloves to be worn if contractor is wearing a wedding band, and does not have the band taped up
  • Hard Hats if required by the area

    Personal Protection for general visitors

Visitors may only enter Zone 1 operational areas when accompanied by a designated General Cable Tour Guide. They must have a General Cable safety briefing, wear the required PPE as supplied by General Cable and be accompanied by their General Cable Tour Guide at all times.

Visitors who are entering Zone 1 operational areas will receive a General Cable safety briefing and will be accompanied by a designated General Cable Tour Guide at all times.

Visitors will require the following PPE to enter Zone 1:

  • Safety footwear – either own, or General Cable New Zealand safety gumboots with disposable booties
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection
  • High visibility overalls
  • Hard hats if required by the area
  • Gloves

A full range of sizes of PPE will be available in the Visitor Safety Equipment Room, however if you have your own PPE (that is consistent with the above) then you are encouraged to bring it.

Mobile phones are not to be used while in any Zone 1 operational area.

It is required that you either remove any jewellery before your visit to General Cable alternatively, a secure safety box for jewellery will be situated in the Visitor Safety Equipment Room.
